A fashion model was bullied by her weird boss whose “type” was blondes so she dyed her hair brown to look unattractive, but ended up being attacked and dismissed, court papers say.
Stephanie Copin, a 38-year-old mother, says in a new Brooklyn Supreme Court lawsuit that she was hired on Manhattan’s Fleet Street in August 2023 and fired months later, after CEO and President Manny Haber abused her with sex and could not. and take the position again.
“I was released because I couldn’t give him what he wanted,” Copin recently told The Post.
Haber, 83, started right out of the gate sexually abusing the mother of one child, according to the filing with Copin.
During his interview on 1 Aug. 2023 and Haber, said “Oh, you [a] a sight to see” and asked her to try on clothes, despite the fact that she was to be hired as an account manager, not a model, court papers say.
During Copin’s first week at her new job at a women’s coat store, other employees made comments like, “Oh, that’s amazing for another blonde,” and, “Oh, she has type,” the file says.
When Copin was given the prestigious office, an employee commented, “The young man in yellow is being given what he wants by his father,” court papers say.
Haber also commented on Copin’s appearance, called him frequently after work, repeatedly asked him for drinks – which he refused – and often asked him to try and modeling outerwear, using her model as an excuse to graze her breasts with clothes. , the suit states.
Then one night, he lured her to his Brooklyn apartment after an after-hours meeting at The Plaza hotel in Manhattan, the suit and the accuser say.
Haber told Copin that his driver would take him back to his home in Clifton, NJ, before taking him to his apartment, court papers say.
But when they reached Haber’s place, he asked a reluctant Copin to come and see his place there, who assured him that he would not be alone because his housekeeper was there. , installation requests.
Once inside, Haber invited Copin into his bedroom to show him the view of the city from his window before he grabbed her, kissed her, introduced himself to her and held her hand. forced him to touch his penis, court papers allege.
Copin panicked during the terror attack before she was there that if she didn’t take action, she would be raped by him, the report said.
“He pushed her and she ran out of the room,” court documents say.
“I was shaking, it was a blur for me when I left the building,” Copain said. I still didn’t understand what happened to me. I just wanted to go home.”
When he got home, “I couldn’t even look at my son,” Copin said through tears. “I went straight to the shower. [Then] I hid in my room.”
Copin said she didn’t tell her husband at the time, as she already suspected he was cheating on her because of Haber’s lack of boundaries at work with her, including calling her on time. all within hours.
He says that the incident left a traumatic mark on him, which made him cry many times at work.
Copin said she later asked him to stop asking her because “I really like my job and I don’t want this to interfere with my work,” court documents state.
“It will not go well, my dear,” he replied threateningly, according to the suit.
Copin said: “He started being very mean to me. “[He] he never acknowledged what he did, he never apologized.
He explained: “It was difficult to go every day to look at him and he tried to put me in a position where he could hold me again and kiss me.” “Every day I wanted to quit, every day. He would belittle me all the time.”
Just a month later, in Nov. 16, 2023, Haber fired Copin the same day he called a company-wide meeting where he “ridiculed” her and called her “incompetent” in front of the rest of the staff, he told The Post.
Copin said the incident tore his life apart financially and personally, as he has not been able to find a job since then. He added that he was divorced.
“I don’t want this to happen to anyone else,” Copin said of one of the reasons he is suing. “This has tormented me. Not only financially, it affected my marriage.”
Copin says she has been forced to seek medical treatment, cries at times, and has no self-esteem. She added that despite the fact that she used to be a bleached blonde, she chose to stay white because “I don’t even want to be looked at.”
She has been looking for work since she lost her job, had to move in with her sister in Edgewater, NJ, after she and her husband separated and is now considering moving to Dallas, Texas, where the cost of living is low, because. she can no longer live in the tri-state area as a single mother.
“I apply every week,” Copin said of his job search.
Copin’s attorney, Mark Shirian, told The Post that he and his client “want justice and accountability” for his mistreatment at the company.
Shirian said: “Stephanie bravely stood up to inappropriate promises and faced Mr. Haber’s retaliation. “This behavior is unacceptable and a clear violation of his rights.”
Haber and a Fleet Street lawyer — who is also named in the suit — did not return the Post’s requests for comment.
